Animals, Slavery and Dr. King, Jr.

Factory farming, which accounts for over 90% of the animals we eat, bears an eerie resemblance to slavery and has been compared to it in many ways, for when we believe any person or species is less worthy than ourselves the seeds of oppression are planted and can grow bitter fruit. As we approach a day remembering and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., let us remember his words “One day the absurdity of the almost universal human belief in the slavery of other animals will be palpable. We shall then have discovered our souls and become worthier of sharing this planet with them.”
